College Credit

Participants can receive college credit through our accreditation by the Gap Year Association (GYA) and their partnership with the University of Montana.

Gappers can opt in to earn college credit for up to two of our courses for an additional fee of $1,950. This fee covers all courses. Each course is worth 3 semester credits. These courses are part of our core curriculum, so all participants will experience the central components of these courses. By opting in to receive college credit, you will be responsible for additional readings, discussions, writing pieces, and final papers or presentations.

For Fall 2025, we will be offering two classes: COLS 191: Self and Culture in Experiential Cohorts, and CTE 191: Intro to Leadership Development. There is the possibility of a 3rd class offering and the information will be posted as soon as it is available.

We often get asked if 529 Education Savings Plans can be used for Gap at Glen Brook. See the answer below, from the Gap Year Association’s website:

Yes! A major advantage of GYA’s College Credit Program is that it allows students to access 529 Education Savings Plan—not only for their credit fee, but also for their program tuition! If a student has a 529 Education Savings Plan, enrolling in a single college credit course through GYA can help them fund a large portion of their gap year expenses.

GYA strongly recommends that students/families consult with their own tax professional to verify that expenses are considered qualified and allowable. If you intend to use a 529 Education Savings Plan to fund your college credit fee and/or program tuition, please alert your gap year program as soon as possible so that they can initiate the necessary arrangements with GYA and the University of Montana.
